The iPhone touchscreen keyboard has been scrutinized from afar since Jobs told us about it in January, but its debut came only with the launch on June 29th. The software keyboards hadn't be used in any cellphones before the iPhone. One of the most common questions is if the keyboard isn't great, then the iPhone cannot be great. It's really that simple.

The truth of the matter is, the keyboard is very easy to hate. Our initial reactions ranged from mild annoyance all the way up to maniacal rage, with some of us fat-fingering our way through 50 percent or higher error rates. However, we could found the keyboard's "intelligence", said by Jobs, that means to figure out what we were saying, and to get better at the iPhone's soft keyboard over time. After several hours of solid use, we became significantly better at using the keyboard. After two days, we were writing multi-paragraph e-mails to family members and friends without hesitation. Five days after,  you will find yourself a "f-ing master" at the keyboard. That's interesting.

One thing we noticed that differed from text entry on other phones was that the iPhone will automatically correct your words if you hit the space bar. After you used the iPhone some days, you'll notice that it is quite accurate in its predictions.

If you don't want the iPhone to correct a word, you tap the word that you were spelling and it will use the word that you had typed. This is also how you add words to the dictionary that aren't already in there (fun tip: almost all nasty curse words are already in the dictionary). One problem, however, is that if you accidentally add words to the dictionary, there seems to be no way to remove them. You have two choices: live with it, or nuke your entire custom dictionary.

Typing speed is another matter. As the iPhone only accept one keypress at a time, which greatly limits speed.
